IOVWST Meeting
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, 2024

Announcement

The 2024 International Ocean Vector Winds Science Team meeting will be held Salt Lake City, Utah, USA on May 29 - 31.

Summary talks will be invited on the following topics (feel free to volunteer to coauthor). Posters on the following topics may be submitted as usual.

The organizers plan to have more discussion on all topics, with extended discussion on the first four topics. Consequently, we would appreciate more presentations by groups, and acknowledge that there are likely to be more poster presentations than in prior face to face meetings.

  1. Processes through which currents, SSTs, and waves interact with ocean surface winds to modify air-sea coupling, and the resulting impacts on the atmosphere and ocean
  2. Do changes in the mean of wind and non-wind variables (e.g., SST, rainfall, humidity) change distributions of wind speeds, wind vectors and wind derivatives?
  3. What needs to be done or changed to better understand observed extreme winds in the context of satellite observations and weather models?
  4. Methods to geophysically segregate ocean wave motion into contributions from ocean velocities from wave drift, orbital motion and ocean current
  5. Data Sharing
  6. Oceanography
  7. Air-Sea Interaction
  8. Meteorology
  9. Observing System Updates and Remote Sensing Technology
  10. Programmatic Talks

Suggestions for contributions on ocean vector wind science topics in other areas are welcome as well.

For reference, contributions to past meetings are accessible at the Past Meetings page.
